Singing Sensation Susan Boyle

Apr 15, 2009 0 comments

Story: Taylor Alexander
Photo: deadline press & picture

I am a big fan of American Idol and talent shows like that. I believe this years Idol is very weak on the talent scale which has cause me to not really watch it a lot this season. I thought to myself with a little laugh that maybe all the talented people have been discovered already. Then I came across a video of a lady named Susan Boyle auditioning for "Britain's Got Talent." Who is Susan Boyle you ask? Well unless you have been living under a rock for the last few days or busy doing taxes like me (just saw it tonight), Ms. Boyle is a 47 year old unemployed lady from Scotland, who reportedly has not sung since her 91 year old Mother passed in 2007.

She has become somewhat of an overnight You Tube sensation! The San Francisco Chronicle has reported that she has had over 15.9 million views since this past Saturday (4/11/09). Her performance of "I Dream A Dream" from Les Miserable has taken the internet world by storm and brought me to tears (I watched it three times in a row). This is one of those teachable moments that we should never ever judge a book my it's cover.

Now Susan's got a website and fan sites popping up all over the place, but the talented singer has not let the instant fame go to her head. She was in church the day after the TV performance (Easter) where she was greeted by a rapturous applause from her friends.

She told the official Britain's Got Talent website: "It was incredible. Although we sing in church not a lot of them know how good I was, so it was a bit of a shock for them."

She is a beautiful example why we should never give up on our dreams no matter how long we hold them.

See her moving performance for yourself!

Obama Controls Your Internet

Story: Mike C.
Video: Philip DeFranco (http://PhillyD.tv)

Remember back in 2006, AT&T whistleblower Mark Klein told us about room 641A. The room where the NSA was receiving ALL of your internet usage. Emails, phone calls, Googling, everything in true Big Brother is watching you fashion. Well now does our government just want to turn the whole damn thing off? No more internet for you! Now go to bed without dinner!

Is Obama really going to turn off the Internet? Shouldn't he have to check with Al Core, creator of the internet first? Just a question.

Blender Magazine "R.I.P"

Mar 26, 2009 0 comments

Story: Taylor

It makes me very sad to hear that owner Alpha Media Group closed the doors on Blender Magazine today. Yet another lost in print media is taken under by the wake of our economic times. The Blender closing means 30 people lost their jobs today leaving Maxim as Alpha Media Group's solo publication. The April 2009 issue will be it's last.

It was reported last month by Thisis50.com that Vibe Magazine did not have enough money to put out their March issue. They somehow were able to put out a March issue, but those in this business could see it was very ad lite to say the least. Meaning with the lack of advertising in the March issue it is very doubtful that any money was made on that issue at all, most likely another number to add to the red. We will have to wait to see if an April Issue is printed.

This is a very tough business that appears to be getting tougher and tougher everyday.

It's about time!

It's no coincidence that Rihanna and Chris Brown are on opposite coasts right now.

Although the couple have not officially broken up, sources close to the once happy couple are saying the two are "taking a break."

Hopefully the distant between them will get Rihanna to wake up and smell the abuse!

Chris Will Receive a 10 Million Dollar Beat Down

Mar 8, 2009 0 comments

Story: Mike C.

Project "Mea Culpa" has been launched in a attempt to repair Chris Brown's image to the public, his fans and more importantly his endorsements. Access Hollywood has reported that project "Mea Culpa", which means "my fault" in latin will be a three part process.

First Brown will be writing a book (with Rihanna's help) on the topic of domestic violence.

Next, Chris and Rihanna will both be hitting the talk show circuit to defend what really happened (we doubt they will be on Orpah anytime soon after her strong words in this video) and to minimize the damage that was done when everyone saw pictures of Rihanna's post attack face.

Lastly, Chris Brown and Rihanna reportly have agreed to a $10 million dollar deal: If he so much as lays a hand on her, he will have to pay her $10 million dollars. I guess this is to prove to her that he is really serious about changing his behavior.

So if Chris has a "oh I'm really gonna beat your ass now" moment it will cost him a $10 million dollar beat down to his wallet. But will this work?

Mea Culpa is a latin phrase that translates into English as "my fault" Read the full story

Rihanna and Chris Brown Have Married Despite Details of Beating Made Public

Mar 6, 2009 1 comments

Story: Mike C.
Sources: NDTV Music & Highbrid Nation

In a surprising development in the Rihanna Chris Brown saga, latest reports suggest that the couple secretly tied the knot soon after their reconciliation in Miami. NDTV Music is reporting that Chris and Rihanna got married during their recent Miami getaway at Ditty's mansion. The secret wedding was conducted by a minister who was brought in for the spur of the moment ceremony, says a source.

"Rihanna is looking for the husband-and-two-kids deal before she turns 25. She believes in fairy tales, and she wants to live hers with Chris. She was totally up front and confessed to him, 'I can't live without you'", the source said.

The couple were at the center of controversy when the news broke that the 19-year-old Brown had battered his long time girl friend Rihanna, after she reportedly questioned him over a text message from another woman. He said that he was sorry a short time later.

UPDATE!

Brown was in court today and details of the beating have emerged. Highbrid Nation.com has reported that notes released from one of the detectives that worked the case was made public today. Here are those notes:

“Christopher B and Robyn F have been involved in a dating relations for approx 1 and half year. On Sunday Feb 8 at 25 hours Brown was driving a vehicle with Robyn F as the front passenger on an unknown street in Los Angeles. Robin F picked brown,s cellular phone and picked up a three-page text message from a woman Brown had had a previous relationship with.

“A verbal argument ensued and Brown pulled a vehicle over in an unknown street. Reach over Robyn F with his right hand and open the car door and attempted to force her out. Brown was unable to force Robyn F out of the vehicle because she was wearing a seat belt. When he could not force her to exit he took his right hand and shoved her head against the passenger window of the vehcile causing an approx 1 inch raised circular contusion.

“Robyn F turned to face Brown and punched her in the left eye with right hand. He then drove away in the vehicle and continued to punch her in the face with his right hand while steering the vehicle with his left hand. The assault caused Robyn F Osmouth to fill with blood and blood to splatter all over her clothing and the interior of the vehicle. Brown looked at Robyn F and stated “I am going to beat the s–t out of you when we get home! You wait and see!?

“Robyn F picked her cellular phone and called her personal assistant Jennifer Rosales. Rosales did not answer the telephone but while her vm greeting was playing Robyn F pretended to talk to her and stated “I am on my way home. Make sure the cops are there when I get there? (this statement was made while greeting was playing and was not captured) after Robyn f faked the call, Brown and looked at her and stated, ‘You just did the stupidest thing ever! Now I really am going to kill you.’

“Brown resumed punching Robyn F and she interlocked her fingers behind her head and brought her elbows forward to protect her face. She then bent over at the waist placing her elbows and face near her lap and in attempt to protect her face and head from the barrage of punches being levied by Brown. Brown continued to punch Robyn F on her left arm and hands, causing her to suffer a contusion on her left triceps that was approx 2 inches in diameter and numerous contusions on her left hand. Robyn f attempted to send another text message to other personal assistant Melissa Ford. Brown snatched the cellular telephone out of her hand and threw it out of the window to an unknown street. Brown continued driving and Robyn F observed his cellular phone in his lap. She picked up the cellular phone with her left hand, and before she could make a call, he placed her in a head lock with right hand and continued to drive the vehicle with his left hand.

“Brown held Robyn F close to him and bit her on her left hear. She was able to feel the vehicle swerving from right to left as Brown sped away. He stopped the vehicle in front of [address] and Robyn F turned off the car removed the key from inignition and sat on it. Brown did not know what she did with the key and began punching her in the face and arms. Brown began applying pressure to Robyn F left and right carotid arteries causing her to be unable to breath. She began to lose consciousness. She reached up with her left hand and began to attempting to gauge his eyes in attempt to flee herself. Brown bit her left ring and middle fingers and released her. While brown continued to punch her she turned around a place her back to against the passenger door. She brought her knees to her chest and placed her feet against Brown,s body and began pushing him away.

“Brown continued to punch her on legs and feet causing several contusions. Robyn F began screaming for help. And Brown exited the vehicle and walked away. A resident in the neighbor heard Robyn F,s plea for help and called 911, causing a police response. An investigation was conducted and Robyn F was issued a domestic violence protective order (EPO). Affiant conducted an interview with Melissa Ford who advised on Feb. 8 2009 at 2500 hours she received a phone call from Robin F from an unknown telephone number later identified as the telephone number of Officer Chavez. Robin F had advised Ford that she had been assaulted by Brown. At approx at 1 am Brown called Ford as nothing happened. Ford advised Brown that she had already talked to Robin F and was aware of what happened. Ford had advised brown that the neighbors had called police and that they were with Robyn F. Brown had asked Ford if robin F had provided police with his name. And ford advised him that she had. Brown hung up the telephone and did not call back.

“On Feb. 8, Brown turned himself in and was given a copy of the EPO and advised to not contact Robyn.

“On Feb. 17 Ford advised the affiant that she had received text messages from … a number that Ford recognized as belonging to Brown. In the text message Brown apologized for what he had done to Robin F. and advised Ford he was going to get help.”

This story just get crazier and crazier by the day. It doesn't seem like Chris Brown would go off like that over this whole cellphone thing. Something is still missing in this story. It just doesn't sound right to me. Maybe we may never know the whole truth to what happened that night. But if there is any truth to them getting married so soon after all of this went down, they are both a little crazy and deserve each other.

One Week Later We Finally Get a Statement

Feb 16, 2009 0 comments

Story: Staff

Chris Brown is "sorry and saddened"

One week after the alleged assault of his then girlfriend Rihanna, Brown said yesterday in a written statement "Words can not express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired." He went on to say, "I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones, and I am committed, with God's help, to emerging a better person."

The alleged altercation took place shortly after midnight on 8 February. Police were called to a dispute in Los Angeles's Hancock Park neighborhood, where a couple had been fighting in a rented Lamborghini. The female victim – identified in numerous reports as Rihanna – received hospital treatment for her injuries. Chris Brown, Rihanna's boyfriend and also a singer, voluntarily surrendered himself to police later that day.

Brown was released on $50,000 bail and will appear in court on 5 March if authorities press formal charges.

"Much of what has been speculated or reported on blogs and/or reported in the media is wrong," Brown's statement continued. "While I would like to be able to talk about this more, until the legal issues are resolved, this is all I can say, except that I have not written any messages or made any posts to Facebook, on blogs or any place else. Those posts or writings under my name are frauds."

So after a week of rumors and questions we are no more closer to the truth then we were before this statement was released and why did it take a week for Chris Brown to say " I'm sorry"?

'American Idol' hopefuls shine in solos

Feb 10, 2009 0 comments

Source: AP

Story by: DERRIK J. LANG, AP Entertainment Writer

LOS ANGELES – Adam Lambert was among several "American Idol" hopefuls who gave the judges something to believe in during the final round of Hollywood Week.

Lambert, the theater actor who wowed the judges with a stripped down version of Cher's "Believe," was one of the contestants put through to the next stage of competition on the Fox singing contest.

During Tuesday's episode, 72 hopefuls performed with a band, backup singers and — if they chose — instruments.

A few of the contestants, including Joanna Pacitti and Casey Carlson, flubbed the lyrics. Stephen Fowler also forgot the words — twice. That didn't seem to matter though because they made it, along with such hopefuls as oil rig worker Michael Sarver, mother-of-three Lil Rounds, over-the-top comedian Nick Mitchell and blind pianist Scott MacIntyre.

The oh-so-emotional Tatiana Del Toro received the most screen time during Tuesday's episode. At one point, the cryin' crooner was shuffled from one room of anxious hopefuls to another.

She thought that meant she was out of the competition.

Surprise!

Del Toro and the others will perform at the "judges' mansion" during Wednesday's episode, in which the 36 semifinalists will be revealed.

Among those who didn't make the cut: rapping college student India Morrison and Michael Castro, the little brother of last season's fourth-place finisher, Jason Castro.

Grammy No Show Chris Brown Arrested

Feb 9, 2009 0 comments

Source: Chicago Tribune Wire

Chris Brown was arrested moments before the 2009 Grammy's were set to commence. The Los Angeles police department announced that Chris Brown, a double nominee and scheduled performer, was being investigated for allegedly assaulting an unidentified woman the night before. Brown turned himself in to authorities and was briefly held before posting $50,000 bail Sunday night, jail records showed.

Chris Brown and longtime girlfriend Rihanna also nominated, were both slated to perform in different slots of the show, but separately dropped out at the last minute. The couple were due to perform at the Grammy awards last night but they pulled out after Brown, 19, was accused of attacking a woman after an argument in a car. Police have not named the woman involved in the incident, reported to have suffered "visible injuries", but the Los Angeles Times reports witnesses claiming that the woman was Rihanna.

Police booked the 19-year-old R&B singer and dancer on suspicion of making a criminal threat, a felony. Police did not explain how their initial report of an injury assault related to the charge, but it will ultimately be up to the district attorney's office to decide what charges, if any, should be brought against Brown.

Jennifer Hudson sang to a pre-recorded track at last Sunday's Super Bowl. So what? Why has this turned into some sort of scandal that has been all over the internet for the last few days?

Both Hudson and Faith Hill sung to track on the advise of the show's producer, Rick Minor. He told The AP: "That's the right way to do it. There's too many variables to go live. I would never recommend any artist go live, because the slightest glitch would devastate the performance."

This was Jennifer's first public performance since the deaths of her mother, brother and nephew last year but I am quite sure this add nothing to do with her choosing to lip sync. It had more to do with the "Janet Jackson" rule then anything else. Remember that whole thing? Well so does the National Football League. Most likely everything is pre-recorded now for the Super Bowl from a musical standpoint and for good reason. Nobody wants to be on watch when another "super mishap" happens. Jordin Sparks lip sync the anthem last year, quite poorly if I may add and surely many more before her. The days of a "Whitney" style anthem are gone however this performance will rank up there rather Jennifer sang live or not.

Hip Hop Bay Area Concert Rip- Off

Story: DJAYPAUSE

Is Luda in the Bay tonight? Well if you brought tickets for a Ludacris concert that was to happen tonight...you mad right now!

Luda is not in The Bay! Chris "Ludacris" Bridges called Oakland's 106KMEL tonight from Las Vegas to let everyone know that he was not scheduled to give a concert tonight in The Bay Area. He said he was not sure who these promoters were that promised a Ludacris concert, but nothing was agreed to and he spoke to no one concerning any concert in The Bay. He did say that because of all this craziness with this fake concert that he wants to get to The Bay on the real will soon. Here once again we get to see the bad side of the industry you know? I mean these fake promoters took the money bag and ran. Leaving alot people with less money and no concert...straight BS for real! Big ups to Luda for calling in the radio station to at least let people know.

Designer Ted Lapidus Dies At 79

Story from guardian.co.uk
Photograph: Pierre Guillaud/AFP/Getty Images

Ted Lapidus, the 1960s fashion revolutionary whose accessible clothing earned him the epithet "designer of the street", has died on the French Riviera at the age of 79.

The Parisian couturier, who is credited with pioneering the hugely successful unisex look, had been suffering from leukaemia and succumbed to pulmonary complications yesterday at a hospital in Cannes.

In a tribute, French president Nicolas Sarkozy said Lapidus had "democratised French elegance and classicism" by making fashion available to ordinary men and women.

Lapidus's designs, beloved of French celebrities such as Brigitte Bardot and Alain Delon, became famous in the 1960s when fashion was looking for a way of keeping up with the social changes sweeping Europe.

His quirky label, created in 1951 and now run by his son Olivier Lapidus, came to be defined by the clean lines of unisex and military clothing and, most of all, by his famoussandy-coloured safari suit.

"Ted was the first designer of the nouvelle vague [new wave]," Lapidus's sister, Rose Torrente-Mett, told Agence France-Presse. "The whole world knew him."

After becoming a member of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, Paris's exclusive high-fashion club, in 1963, Lapidus soon diversified the business into accessories, which he believed had a more lucrative future.

A funeral service will be held for the designer on Friday. He will be buried in the rambling Père Lachaise cemetery in eastern Paris alongside such greats as Oscar Wilde, Jim Morrison and Chopin.
