Battle Tested Sade Releases New Single

New Single "Soldier Of Love"

Story by: Staff

Sade is back after an almost 10 year hibernation from the music scene. Miss.Adu (now 50 years of age, but looks 35) has finally released the lead single for her upcoming album of the same name "Soldier Of Love." The buzz started last spring when leaks on the internet started to pop up that she was in the studio working on new material. The then rumored November 09' release date has now been moved to February 8th 2010. As a huge Sade fan, I couldn't wait to hear her new single "Soldier Of Love" After listening to it a couple of times it was well worth the wait. The song starts with the sound of a north wind and then the sound of a sax and piano join in to form an almost high noon at the O.K. Corral feel. Kanye West drops in the beat with great drum rolls, but when you hear that voice. The voice that we all know and love, well, it just takes you to another place. A place that is familiar yet somehow different then we have ever went with Sade. The band sounds tighter than ever and Sade's voice is still pure magic. Kayne's production is nothing short of amazing. The only thing I didn't like was the vocal insert of "ho's" that seem to come from nowhere and quite frankly don't really work here. It seems to give the song a dated (mid 90's) club or party feel which is not what you feel when listening to this song. This is a battle song for love that could have been done without those vocal additions. All and all this is a strong lead single and we think one of Sade's best songs ever! (FIVE STARS) We can't wait to hear more from her.

Blender Magazine "R.I.P"

Mar 26, 2009 0 comments

Story: Taylor

It makes me very sad to hear that owner Alpha Media Group closed the doors on Blender Magazine today. Yet another lost in print media is taken under by the wake of our economic times. The Blender closing means 30 people lost their jobs today leaving Maxim as Alpha Media Group's solo publication. The April 2009 issue will be it's last.

It was reported last month by Thisis50.com that Vibe Magazine did not have enough money to put out their March issue. They somehow were able to put out a March issue, but those in this business could see it was very ad lite to say the least. Meaning with the lack of advertising in the March issue it is very doubtful that any money was made on that issue at all, most likely another number to add to the red. We will have to wait to see if an April Issue is printed.

This is a very tough business that appears to be getting tougher and tougher everyday.

Polow Da Don List Himself In The Top 3 Producers?

Mar 21, 2009 0 comments

Story:DJAYPAUSE

Source:www.worldstarhiphop.com

This was taken from an interview with Keri Hilson and producer Polow Da Don. Believe it or not he says that himself, Timberland and Danger are the best producers in the game? WTF? Are you serious? He didn't even say right now, he said in the game which means ever to me. An ever list would have to contain: Dr.Dre, Premier, Dilla, etc. The greats! I guess we are going to have to create a "Greatest Hip Hop Producers of All Time List" But I can tell you right now, Polow Da Don will NOT be in the top three! Listen to the interview and let us know what you think.

As record sales continue to drop off how will future artist be paid? One way would be for them to be compensated when their music is played on the radio. At least this is the idea of The Music First Coalition. Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins is seen here giving his testimony to Congress regarding H.R. 848.

Keri Hilson Backs Down From The Beef

Mar 9, 2009 0 comments

Story: Staff

Keri Hilson is now saying that people are reading too much into the lyrics of a song that was recently leak containing shots at either Beyonce or Ciara. The short lived beef started with the "Turning Me On Remix" version which has been floating around. In it she is clearly talking about somebody. Read her lyrics and listen to her recent radio interview with Ciara about it and decide for yourself. We think Keri shouldn't worry about all this stuff and just focus on writing some new material for her next project. We even have a name for her next single. It should be called BU*LS**T!!

Here are Keri's lyrics:

“I ain’t tryin’ to start no mess there’s just something on my chest that I need to get off…Your vision cloudy if you think you the best. You can dance, she can sing, but need to move it ‘to the left’.” “She need to go have some babies. She need to sit down she fading.” “Go head tell these folks how long I been writing your songs… I been putting you on… check the credits hoe!…If you want me you can find me in Decatur hoe.”

Auto Tuned Out

Mar 4, 2009 0 comments

By: DJAYPAUSE

Why are we still on the Auto-Tune boat people? I love the "holy grail of recording" as much as the next producer, but come on seriously...when are we going to stop?

For those that don't know Auto-Tunes is a plug that is used to correct intonation problems in vocals or solo instruments. In simple terms it is a pitch correction tool. I won't say that I don't use it because I would be lying. I have used it on about 98% of my produced tracks since about 2004 so I am not saying to producers, "Don't use Auto-Tune anymore." Using Auto-Tune or Melodyne (I personally like Melodyne better) to aid vocals that are off key at points of the song is fine. To use these programs to correct your whole song or to use the "Cher/T-Pain" effect throughout the whole song because you can't sing is done...it's a wrap. This little tool has become a mask that hip-hop is now wearing to identify itself. That same mask is limiting it's creativity and giving our music category a "same-sound" complex.

So for all the artist out there. Don't ask for studio time and then you can't hit a note without the help of Auto-Tune. Really. You gotta bring something to the table. I know that because it is so well known people will ask for it thinking that it will make the vocals work. No, you gotta make the vocals work! You have to have some skills to begin with.

For the producers out there. I know it's hard to resist using Auto-Tunes. It like Photoshop for music right? Again, I am not saying don't use it, but we as producers are not helping those that have no music ability whatsoever and just say " oh yeah I know I'm flat. Just Auto-Tune me." When they say that Auto-Tune them out!

How To Build Your Electronic Press Kit

Feb 17, 2009 0 comments

Source: www.knowthemusicbiz.com

Much has changed for musicians with the rise of Social Media from marketing to artist-fan relations to the distribution of music. This has forced artists to rethink how they communicate with labels, the press and fans. A traditional form of presenting music to industry stakeholders is the press kit. These typically have included a demo, photos, printed reviews, biography, etc. But with the various resources available with Web 2.0, such as MySpace Music, artists essentially have an electronic press kit that is available to anyone at all times. This doesn’t mean that all artists use their MySpace page for this reason or even should. Instead they should use it as one element in creating an electronic press kit (EPK) versus a traditional press kit. The following are 3 simple steps towards creating your very own EPK:

1. Create a MySpace Music or Website

Thanks to MySpace, it’s no longer absolutely necessary for musicians to have their very own website. Instead, they can use their MySpace to showcase their music/videos/pictures and provide any additional biography/tour related information. Having a website doesn’t hurt though because it could make you look more professional and allow you to be found through search engines. Whatever you decide to do, the link you provide in your EPK to your MySpace or website should include your work because, ultimately, this is what labels/venues care about the most. Whether you provide a link to your MySpace page or to your website, make sure that the music is easy to find. The idea is to get them to voluntarily listen to your music rather than feel like it’s being forced upon them, which could potentially turn them off right away. However, MySpace isn’t the only tool you can use. YouTube is increasingly popular and not only can you display your music but can even include a video of yourself talking about it.

2. Create a “One Sheet”

In addition to your music you should include some information about yourself but limit it to one side of a single page. This page can include a short bio, marketing plans, tour dates and any other information you deem relevant and important. You can use bullet points or titles/subtitles to make the text more organized and easier to read but try to keep it as simple as possible and not too fancy. Labels receive an overwhelmingly large amount of press kits all the time, which is why it’s important to be concise and to the point. If you do decide to send your press kit via snail mail, make sure it’s not highly elaborate and easily accessible. In other words, don’t shrink wrap your CD or fill your press kit with glitter.

3. Send Your EPK

Typically, there are two places you send your EPK to: venues and labels. If you’re sending to a venue, they’re going to want to know how many audience members you’re going to bring. This information can be included in the e-mail before you link them to your press kit and/or MySpace Music page. If you’re sending to a label, they’re going to place emphasis on you as a brand. This means they will want to know if you’ve toured with any bigger acts, where you’ve played and where you’re from. Again, you can touch on these in the e-mail and then expand on them in your EPK. Be sure to personalize the email and then follow up.

One Week Later We Finally Get a Statement

Story: Staff

Chris Brown is "sorry and saddened"

One week after the alleged assault of his then girlfriend Rihanna, Brown said yesterday in a written statement "Words can not express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired." He went on to say, "I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones, and I am committed, with God's help, to emerging a better person."

The alleged altercation took place shortly after midnight on 8 February. Police were called to a dispute in Los Angeles's Hancock Park neighborhood, where a couple had been fighting in a rented Lamborghini. The female victim – identified in numerous reports as Rihanna – received hospital treatment for her injuries. Chris Brown, Rihanna's boyfriend and also a singer, voluntarily surrendered himself to police later that day.

Brown was released on $50,000 bail and will appear in court on 5 March if authorities press formal charges.

"Much of what has been speculated or reported on blogs and/or reported in the media is wrong," Brown's statement continued. "While I would like to be able to talk about this more, until the legal issues are resolved, this is all I can say, except that I have not written any messages or made any posts to Facebook, on blogs or any place else. Those posts or writings under my name are frauds."

So after a week of rumors and questions we are no more closer to the truth then we were before this statement was released and why did it take a week for Chris Brown to say " I'm sorry"?

Butta Creme Gets Signed

Jan 28, 2009 0 comments

(Hip Hop PR Wire)

After winning B.E.T.'s #1 rated "Wild Out Wednesday" and W.O.W. All-star competition, record exec Diamond Blue Smith (Bluestar Records Inc. President) signs new girl group Butta Creame! Visit www.ButtaCreame.com for more info!

Music Exec Diamond Blue Smith, Bluestar Records President Present's Butta Creame: The New Tomboys on the Scene!

Tomboyish and flamboyant with their look and their sound, four talented and enriched young women, destined to make history, stand strong in unity to prove that their unique and exotic creativity lead to many opportunities. Staying steady in their quest to promote girl power and the importance of individuality, these ladies have managed to break through the barrier of simplicity as their baggy jeans, superfluous jewelry, and tantalizing voices have secured them a spot in a highly competitive industry. The precision and enthusiasm the group exhibits through performances prompted a courageous individual, impressed by their exceptional style and energy, to take Joann Cuffee ("Buttafly"), Amber Lewis ("Hot Butta"), Alisa Mullins ("Butta Baby"), and Kenya Small ("Cocoa Butta") and turn them into Butta Creame, a one-of-a-kind R&B group.

Natives of Virginia with childhood dreams of being a doctor, lawyer, actress, and entertainer, the four parts of the group possessed a distinct vision for music and a passion for singing. Coming together under one sisterhood, these high school friends went from working at the mall to performing live in front of millions. Making their first debut in 2007 on BET's "106 & Park" as Sweet Dreams and as the winners of "Wild Out Wednesday" and "W.O.W All Stars," these four ladies received more than just recognition as their 90s style and eccentric demeanor placed them on a pedestal like that of Xscape, SWV, and Aaliyah. The desire to better their lives and see the results of their hard work led this group to perform at "Blaze the Stage," a talent showcase that would change their lives forever as their aesthetic voices captured the attention of Diamond Blue Smith, the President of Bluestar Records. These ladies had such a compelling performance and electrifying sound that the end result was a comparison to renowned En Vogue and a record deal with Bluestar Records. With a new name and style that reflects the vision and expertise of their stylist, Tamika Scott of Xscape, Butta Creame's journey to stardom soon became a reality as their determination to succeed in the music business superseded any not ion of failure. Appearing on Pretty Ricky's billboard-topping album, Late Night Special, and their latest project, 80's Babies, these girls are storming through life focused and fearless. The quartet's melodious tone and subtle yet candid attitude can be heard on songs such as the Salt & Pepper interpolation, "On the Hotline" (Remix) also featuring Jim Jones, Missy Elliot & Rick Ross, "So Confused", and "Cuddle Up," all of which are fan favorites. Whether it is through music or a personal conversation, this remarkable group makes it known that regardless of the odds against them, their evenness of confidence and humbleness will be the center of attention. As Butta Creame prepares to capitalize on their hard work, determination, and vision to become multi-platinum recording artists, the world continues to listen to the radio and watch You Tube videos to feel enlightened and rejuvenated by Butta Creame's genuine devotion to make music that is far beyond average. With an album being produced by Music Royale Productions, the mastermind behind the success of Pretty Ricky and a buzz track titled "Sugar Daddy," featuring Diamond Blue formally known as Baby Blue, these impeccable ladies are garnering attention and taking their career to new heights. While the lyrics are clear and direct, the harmonic sound that transcends th rough Butta Creame's music adds validity to their immense vocal capacity and subtracts any negativity that can cause their dream to be deferred.

His name is RicoFotoChico or Rico for short. He is a professional model working in urban, high fashion, pinup in addition to artistic work. Rico has been working in all parts of entertainment pretty much his whole life from Music Productions to Radio, Dance , Choreography, to Drama. Stage work as well as Modeling Instructor and Talent Scout to Disc Jockey and now Professional Photographer over the past 3 years specifically focussing on Models involving fashion, entertainment as well as magazine image making and in the Jacksonville Beach, Florida area.

Rico picked up his first camera at age 9 with his Uncle who shot for the government in Washington D.C. Somewhere long the line he decided that he wanted to be front of the lens as well. Believe it or not he is able to do both and very well. His work is simply stunning! Rico has a great eye for the camera, using shadows and light at his disposal to mix perfectly with the environment in which the shots are taken. I believe his experience in-front of the camera is what allows him to excel behind it. He seem to have a knack of making every model work within every shot, but the photos look almost effortless and natural, not forced. He says his main focus of late is with a concentration towards the Imaginary, Cinematography Image of image making and gravitating towards that slowly.

If you are a model in the Florida area you should get in contact with RicoFotoChico Photography to add to your portfolio. If you are not in the Florida area you should study his work. His pictures are beautiful!

Hip Hop Bay Area Concert Rip- Off

Jan 6, 2009 0 comments

Story: DJAYPAUSE

Is Luda in the Bay tonight? Well if you brought tickets for a Ludacris concert that was to happen tonight...you mad right now!

Luda is not in The Bay! Chris "Ludacris" Bridges called Oakland's 106KMEL tonight from Las Vegas to let everyone know that he was not scheduled to give a concert tonight in The Bay Area. He said he was not sure who these promoters were that promised a Ludacris concert, but nothing was agreed to and he spoke to no one concerning any concert in The Bay. He did say that because of all this craziness with this fake concert that he wants to get to The Bay on the real will soon. Here once again we get to see the bad side of the industry you know? I mean these fake promoters took the money bag and ran. Leaving alot people with less money and no concert...straight BS for real! Big ups to Luda for calling in the radio station to at least let people know.
