Battle Tested Sade Releases New Single

New Single "Soldier Of Love"

Story by: Staff

Sade is back after an almost 10 year hibernation from the music scene. Miss.Adu (now 50 years of age, but looks 35) has finally released the lead single for her upcoming album of the same name "Soldier Of Love." The buzz started last spring when leaks on the internet started to pop up that she was in the studio working on new material. The then rumored November 09' release date has now been moved to February 8th 2010. As a huge Sade fan, I couldn't wait to hear her new single "Soldier Of Love" After listening to it a couple of times it was well worth the wait. The song starts with the sound of a north wind and then the sound of a sax and piano join in to form an almost high noon at the O.K. Corral feel. Kanye West drops in the beat with great drum rolls, but when you hear that voice. The voice that we all know and love, well, it just takes you to another place. A place that is familiar yet somehow different then we have ever went with Sade. The band sounds tighter than ever and Sade's voice is still pure magic. Kayne's production is nothing short of amazing. The only thing I didn't like was the vocal insert of "ho's" that seem to come from nowhere and quite frankly don't really work here. It seems to give the song a dated (mid 90's) club or party feel which is not what you feel when listening to this song. This is a battle song for love that could have been done without those vocal additions. All and all this is a strong lead single and we think one of Sade's best songs ever! (FIVE STARS) We can't wait to hear more from her.

Make Yo Move - JJ featuring Runway

Story: Mike C.

JJ featuring Runway "Make Yo Move"

Make Yo Move is a new song by Jessica Jonathan a.k.a JJ, featuring rapper Runway.

Jessica Jonathan - is an R&B singer songwriter from Dallas, TX.
Jessica fell in love early. That love was for music and she would fall hard. JJ quickly took on a strong fascination with music ranging from Classical, R&B Soul, pop, hip-hop, jazz, and blues. Since the age of 11, JJ has encompassed her love for music by playing and studying the violin as well as nurturing her talent as a vocalist. “I believe it was when I was in the 7th grade when I grasped what I was vocally capable of”, she goes on to describe, “there was a time in the girls locker room when this song came on the radio, “Nobody” by Deborah Cox, I sang the bridge of the song, which was vocally challenging by the why and I nailed it.” JJ participated in many activities in and out of school. All where she could further develop her skills and do what she loved doing best performing. She sang in talent shows, choir musicals and took on roles in plays. She also has a skill for writing. It hasn’t been until now, that she has introduced her songwriting ability to the public, with songs she has recorded. JJ has recently joined in collaboration with a song writing team known as the Front Runners. “This is hot, actually this production team is fire, each member of the group beings a unique song writing vibe to the entire group.” JJ is currently acquiring a Bachelors of Arts in Music performance at Texas Woman’s University in Denton, TX.

Joshua "RunWay" Law, who started his rap career in 2003 , grew up in the North Dallas and reps his hood and city to the fullest. For a while, he gave in to the lure of the streets. “I saw a lot of people get locked up and I didn’t want to go that route,” Run says. “I had to do something different with my life.” A rap career had been in the back of Run’s mind since high school when he used to sneak out of class to hit up a popular record shop. He didn’t take his potential career seriously until he witnessed Jay-Z’s Hard Knock Life tour. Run quickly recorded a demo and took it to Universal Records. On “Hustle”, Run finds the parallels between working the corner and working a 9 to 5 and “All Good (Dedication To My Father)” which is not on the album showcases the blessed rapper recounting how he overcame his personal demons. “People say you can believe me as soon as I start rapping,” says Run. “I just bring folks closer to me. I ain’t scared to rap about who I really am or what’s really going on in the hood. It’s not just flossing with me.” With an incomparable flow underscored by hyper Texas-sized beats and enough heart to fuel a Cowboys’ championship win, RunWay is certain to not only just put Dallas on the hip-hop map, but solidify its place in the rap game as well.

Crash and Burn - Kasior Sosa

Kaisor Sosa.....Who is Kasior Sosa? Not the cat from that movie, but he is a southside Chicago MC. He is a gifted story teller. I am impressed with his wordplay. He is one of the most underated newcomers in the game. This one right here did not do it for me as far as the production goes, but Sosa lyrics alone are worth a listen.
Check out Kaisor Sosa's "Crash and Burn." djpause gives it 2 stars!

Return to the Throne - 5th Ave
For Sacramento, CA emcee 5th Ave, hip hop is a discipline - something to be lived and manifested in every step. He lives like his speaks. The co-founder of the all star artist collective The Neighborhood Watch is a quick witted wordsmith with an almost east coast accent to his flow. This cat is one to watch! This joint right here is real hot!

Kasha's The Oracle (Black Rhyme Edition)

Feb 6, 2009 1 comments

Story: Staff
Photo: vividimageryuk

What is an oracle? An oracle is a person or agency considered to be a source of wise counsel or prophetic opinion; an infallible authority. If this is the case Kasha's newest release The Oracle Black Rhyme Edition (a preview of the up coming LP The Oracle) produced by Composure, Denzy, Phocus and Red Skull on the Vivid Imagery Label is correctly named.

Kasha is a pure lyricist who is bringing real heat to the game London style.

I first heard of Kasha last year when I caught a remix of Estelle's American Boy by the U.K. rapper called American Girl. Not one of my favorite songs to start with, but Kasha's flow was crazy on it. So I started checking out more stuff by the up and coming lyricist.

Who is Kasha?
Kasha is an unsigned English rapper from Charlton, London and part of a production team called Vivid Imagery. Kasha has been called ‘the strongest lyricist in the UK’ by Kiss100, he has been likened to Tupac and Common. He has been described as a breath of freshest air for Hip Hop. His style of rap is warm, raw, emotional and poetic and has often been described as punk. He tells stories of his surroundings, the problems in the world and his dreams. Unlike most hip hop the music has a strong sense of melody and is made up of an eclectic mix of street beats, jazz flows and cinematic hooks. With collaborations and inspiration from live bands, musicians and singers there are absolutely no barriers to this kids art.

The Oracle (Black Rhyme Edition)
For the next 46 minutes Kasha's is going take you across the pond to his world in London.

The song 'Come Back With It' has got an easy Sunday afternoon feel to it. The melody carries the song throughout with a very nice hook. Kasha sings about his love which happens to be "Hip Hop." Now this is nowhere close to Common's attempt to show his love for the same topic, but it is a song that will quickly grow on you. Hustling (feat. Composure) is the next track. Now once you get pass the Rick Ross like hook and listen to his flow and the production it's not a bad song. The hottest track on The Black Rhyme Edition is 'Living For the Moment.' Lyrics are crazy on this one son. The dramatic beat production goes perfect with the subject matter of the song. This song alone is 5 stars! Surprisingly one of his hottest tracks 'You Have A Choice' is missing from The Oracle (Black Rhyme Edition). Violins on that one crazy, but he could be saving that for the actual release of The Oracle in April. The rest of the tracks found here are on par with what this gifted artist is able to put out. No garbage here all the tracks are hot.

What's to Come?
On April 6th 2009 Kasha will release his debut album called ‘The Oracle’, which is designed to bring back the essence of the early 90’s hip hop but with 21st century quality. The Oracle adds to this lyrically strong, musically rich hip hop era and opens up the sound to new ears, the rap style is melodic and fresh and opens up the to people who never really new they liked hip hop.

With tracks selling around the globe, airplay on Kiss, Choice, Xfm, BBC 1xtra and Galaxy, appearances on MTV and TMF, this amazing rapper with the ability to paint a visual picture with his words is proving the art of story telling through rap is not dead.

We give Kasha's The Oracle (Black Rhyme Edition) 4 STARS.

Khari - There Can Only Be One King

Review: DJAYPAUSE
Photo: Courtesy of blackplanet.com/KingKhari

Khari (pronounced Kah-REE), which means "Kingly" in swahili is a spoken word artist from Oakland, California. But he is not just a spoken word artist, he is a poet and author. My Man King Khari has been doin his thang real big in the Oakland/Berkeley area for awhile.

Khari came on the scene about three years ago with a visit to Mouth Off which is a spoken word poetry venue at Oakland's Air Lounge on Wednesday's. Since then he has performed at hundreds of venues throughout the country, sold thousands of CDs and books. A really talented and deep cat right here yall. So when his album dropped last month I could not wait to review it!

The album is called "There Can Only Be One King". It is the debut album from this spoken word artist and poet. With 27 tracks over all original music it was hard to pick my favorite joints on the album but I gonna try....

The first cut I really dug was "If I Could Bring You Back" about his grandmother. Grabs you from the word go and puts an emotion lockjaw on your heart man for real. As you are listening you feel his love and his pain over his grandmother that has past. Anyone that has lost someone can really relate to this one. I know I did. The next joint I really liked was called "Squirt". Man, this one is the one son. You play this for your girl and....man...anyway, we gotta keep it clean right. Squirt is about...well I can not really tell you and keep it clean at the same time. It is about a woman...you get the picture right? You just gotta hear this one. The song is hot! "Teddy Bear" is next on my list but really the whole album is solid. Production is real nice you know, beats are tight and Khari is on point on this one from start to finish. All the hits are here too "Thickness" "Hipnotic" and "Teddy Bear." I got two words for Khari on this new album, "Yeah brah!"

I give "There Can Only Be One King" 4 CONTRACT OFFERS!
